Here we'll give a reason as to why we recommend these books:
Letters to a Law student- Nicholas J McBride. This book is so insightful and tells you everything you'll need to know when starting Law at university. Even if you're not going to be studying Law- this book is still good as it gives you revision tips and talks about FOMO (the fear of missing out) and how to use it positively to impact your future career!
Stories of the Law and how it's broken- The Secret Barrister- As the Observer says it's "terrifying...hilarious..eye-opening'. This book is widely recommended by people across the spectrum: whether they are Junior lawyers or prospective Law students.
Criminal Law- Pearson Law Express. This book gives a good insight into Criminal Law, it incorporates a number of different revision styles, so that each different learner can find it easy to study from this guide. This brilliant mini guide also comes with a podcast
Who governs Britain- Anthony King. This book gives insight into the UK political system along with other controversial views harboured and discussed over the years. King does a great job in terms of educating a reader who isn't aware of such concepts. Who governs Britain addresses three key questions: 'where does power lie in Britain today?', 'why has British politics changed so dramatically in recent decades? and 'is our system of government still fit for purpose?'. This man has certainly educated me and so I hope that his works live on to educate and influence others.
An American history: a very short introduction- Donald T Chritchlow . This is also a top read and gives insight into America, be sure to have a dictionary at the ready as there are some very complex terms in this book.
Becoming- Michelle Obama. This book is split into three sections: 'becoming me', where Obama details her childhood life; 'becoming us', where she talks about her and Barack Obama and 'becoming more', where she talks about having a family and her husband being elected the first black president of the USA.
Expect the extraordinary- Jerry Savelle. In this section, I'm not just going to suggest Legal and Political books but Biblical books too. Personally, I love the way this book is written and the way it encourages me, as stated in the title this book empowers you to trust in God. As the Bible says, "my word will not return unto me void". This just means whatever God has spoken will come to pass.
